If you have forgotten you VPN password (which is also your PRISM UNIX password), send an email to '''cluster-admin@soe.ucsc.edu''' requesting that your password be reset (include your username in the request).
If you have forgotten your VPN password (which is also your PRISM UNIX password), you can reset it yourself with our self service password reset portal:

Once we have sent you your new temporary password, you will need to:
https://private-ssp.gi.ucsc.edu

1: Log into the PRISM VPN using this new temporary password.
It will ask you for your username, and also to enter the text you see in a Captcha ChallengeIt will then discover the email address you provided when your account was created, and it will send a link via emailClick on that link in your email and then it will take you back to the password tool and you will be able to change your password.

2: Log into one of the servers behind the firewall (mustard, emerald, crimson or razzmatazz) using you new temporary password.
3: Once you log in there, it should ask you to type in your temporary password one more time, then it will ask you to choose a new passwordIf it does not ask you to change your password (because you are logging in with SSH public keys), use the '''passwd''' command to change your password.  Once you choose a new password (and type it twice for confirmation), log out of your SSH session.  '''NOTE:''' Your new password must be 10 characters long, using three or more character classes (lowercase, uppercase, number or special character).
4: Log out (disconnect) from the VPN.  '''This step is very important!'''
5: Log back into the VPN using your '''new''' password that you chose in step 3.
6: Log back into one of the servers (mustard, emerald, crimson or razzmatazz) using your new password.

Assuming all that works, your password has been reset.  You cannot reset your password to one of the prior five passwords you have used for your account.
Note that if your account has expired (and is locked), then you will not receive a password reset email.  You will also not receive an email if you typed in your username incorrectly.

Once you have changed your password, note that your VPN *and* UNIX password will be changed to that password.

If you have forgotten your VPN password (which is also your PRISM UNIX password), you can reset it yourself with our self service password reset portal:

https://private-ssp.gi.ucsc.edu

It will ask you for your username, and also to enter the text you see in a Captcha Challenge. It will then discover the email address you provided when your account was created, and it will send a link via email. Click on that link in your email and then it will take you back to the password tool and you will be able to change your password.

Note that if your account has expired (and is locked), then you will not receive a password reset email. You will also not receive an email if you typed in your username incorrectly.

Once you have changed your password, note that your VPN *and* UNIX password will be changed to that password.
